"I love her colors, they radiate" - Nancy Weber

                                     Artist Statement

Post Impressionism is the genre I have been drawn to since I was a child and it still inspires my passion to want to paint feverishly today.  I’ve always admired particularly the works of Van Gogh, Monet, Gauguin, Renoir, Degas, Seurat and Cassatt.  Especially, Van Gogh and how he piled the paint on inches thick (impasto technique) that technically under X-ray his paintings are still not dry today! My favorite expressive artist is Emil Nolde.  I am a lover of art history; I fuel from it to play with ideas for my own work.  One of my aspirations through my works is to push art history into the present and into the future.

I have been creating art for all of my life.  Ever since I could hold a pencil or crayon I have been looking at and drawing from the works of the great artists I have admired.  My painting style is decidedly painterly and expressive.   I teach the Basic Elements of Art and Principles of Design.   I am aware of these theories in my own work.  My paintings are more expressive than skillful  ("Expressionism" is an 19th century art movement that shows the artist’s inner state rather than recording the subject accurately.)  I consider myself a Romantic Expressionist, I paint with my emotions of what I see with my heart and listen to with my eyes.  I want you to see what I see through my eyes and share in my passion to paint.   I enjoy the leisurely no-muss-no-fuss medium of acrylic on canvas.  I like the drying immediacy that acrylics lend to my work. I paint with speed, emotion, passion and energy. I see my subjects in color and mass rather than line.  Sometimes I paint wet-on-wet, as I like to record the moment immediately.  I remember each painting up until the moment; thus my paintings are like time capsules for me. Although I do paint plein air, I sometimes like taking on various images using my digital photographs and research.  Studio painting appeals to me because of the relaxed pace and control of my  environment.  My paintings are a direct reflection of what I find beauty in.  I paint mostly for myself.  I paint what moves me and what I want to share with my audience.

I invite you to come see what I’m saying through my paintings.   If one enjoys what I see through my eyes and in my heART then I welcome you to share in my passion.  I embrace it!
